Black SN770M | 2230 NVMe | 2 TB: $259.99
For a gaming handheld, this is a mighty upgrade. It’s rated to reasonable speeds but, importantly, packs in 2 TB of storage. My Steam Deck is envious already. Just noting I didn’t put the ‘before’ price down here because Best Buy is having a laugh: $531.99—yeah, as if.
Key specs: NVMe | PCIe 4.0 | Up to 5,150 MB/s read | up to 4,850 MB/s write

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: Handheld gaming PCs are cooked right now. Even the Steam Deck, which was our budget hero once upon a time, will now set you back nearly 790 smackers at least. Gutting! But not all hope is lost, as our James has spotted a cracking deal on Lenovo’s Legion Go S that makes it more affordable than Valve’s handheld.
Whether you’re picking up a handheld gaming PC during the Prime Day sales, or you got one back when they were much more reasonably priced, the next thing to navigate is storage. The form factor handhelds require, coupled with the still raging memory supply crisis, makes this a bit of a mission. However, I’ve found a deal on a 2 TB SSD that works out to $0.13 per GB.
Specifically, it’s the 2230 form factor version of the WD_Black SN770M for $260, meaning it should handily slot into your handheld of choice. 2 TB is a lot of room for such a compact drive, and you’re getting decent speeds with this one too (5,150 MB/s on the read, and 4,850 MB/s on the write).
Considering that to date I’ve found only one other SSD similarly priced, and that came with some caveats, I’ve got to wonder why this little guy is so reasonably priced. For starters, this is a TLC SSD with a very respectable 1200 TBW, so it’s not really down to write endurance this time.
As you may already be aware, Western Digital used to own SanDisk, though the companies went their separate ways in 2025. Western Digital pulled back from consumer SSDs while SanDisk carried on, eventually announcing that the WD_Black and WD Blue product lines would eventually be rebranded as SanDisk Optimus. Bottom line, the WD_Black SN770M that’s the subject of our deal today is likely old stock that Best Buy may be looking to clear out. Hey, I’ll take it!

In his WD Black SN770M review, our Zak gave the 1 TB version of this drive his seal of approval. He wrote, “Although it lacks the sequential punch of some of its competitors, random 4K performance is top-tier, making it ideal for gaming handhelds, and for those on a budget looking to maximize those load times.”
Now, those words were written before our current times of memory supply crisis. However, even as I wish the memory of last year’s prices wasn’t quickly fading from the rearview mirror, $0.13 per GB is arguably still in the spirit of Zak’s verdict.
