As a PC builder it seems like your best bet these days is to start keeping an eye on Newegg’s bundle deals if you’re looking to put together a new gaming rig. Even then, it’s not cheap or easy, or even more affordable than just buying a discounted prebuilt gaming PC.
But PC building is one of the best things about this hobby and I’ll be damned if any AI-generated memory crisis is going to take that away from me. So I’m regularly playing around with the Newegg combo builder, and right now there’s a decent AMD deal that nets you an Asus motherboard, a six-core Zen 4 CPU, and 16 GB DDR6-6000 for $546.98 at Newegg. And you even get a free 240 mm Cooler Master CPU cooler in the mix.
Just add in an RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB card—for just $389 at Walmart still—and you’re getting more or less an entire gaming PC for $936. Okay, you still need a PSU, a case, and some storage, but what’s an SSD between friends?

RTX 5060 Ti | 8 GB: $389
The 8 GB version of the new RTX 5060 Ti is a lot cheaper than the 16 GB one, and while the extra VRAM will be useful in the future, it’s absolutely not worth paying $200+ more for it, despite the clear benefits. This is a great little GPU for the money.

Alternatively, you could just go for a full prebuilt gaming PC, such as this one from iBuyPower that Jacob highlighted last week that is still live and kicking today. It’s another RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB machine, but comes with a 1 TB SSD and 32 GB of DDR5-5200 memory.
You could potentially build a system up with the Newegg combo that would get close to that, but if you did want a 1 TB SSD and 32 GB of memory in there then you are going to blast past the $1,400 price tag of the iBuyPower system.
Sadly, this is another nail in PC building from a value perspective, but I still maintain it’s the best way to get to know your PC; getting elbow deep into its innards and bringing it to life.

This is about as cheap as you’ll find a gaming PC that not only gives decent 1080p and 1440p gaming performance but also gives plenty of wiggle room in the general processing department. That’s thanks not only to the Core i7 chip but also the 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, which offers plenty of peace of mind during this global memory shortage. Sadly, you’re only getting the 8 GB version of the GPU, though.
