Terminally Online(Image credit: Future)This is Terminally Online: PC Gamer's very own MMO column. Every other week, I'll be sharing my thoughts on the genre, interviewing fellow MMO-heads like me, taking a deep-dive into mechanics we've all taken for granted, and, occasionally, bringing in guest writers to talk about their MMO of choice.Ah, zone chats in MMOs—trade and general chats, /shouts and /yells. Intended as a way to render the social...

Weird WeekendWeird Weekend is our regular Saturday column where we celebrate PC gaming oddities: peculiar games, strange bits of trivia, forgotten history. Pop back every weekend to find out what Jeremy, Josh and Rick have become obsessed with this time, whether it's the canon height of Thief's Garrett or that time someone in the Vatican pirated Football Manager.I am a stakhanovite, a hero-worker. My productivity is not measured in grams...

Ghostwire: Tokyo, Tango Gameworks' spooky, neon-drenched action-adventure game, is now officially a good old game. Granted, it's not that old, but 'good' seems about right given that contributing writer Imogen Mellor scored it a 72 in her review. But what I mean is that it's joined GOG's Preservation Program. If you're wondering why a game from 2022 would need to be preserved already, well, it kind of doesn't. You may be...

We learned last week that a Cyberpunk 2077 movie is in the works, an announcement I used mainly to talk about a completely different cyberpunk movie starring Keanu Reeves as a guy named Johnny who's having a bad week. Now we've got a bit more insight into what CD Projekt Red has in mind for the film, and it's possible that a guy named Johnny may not be involved at...

One day into Wardogs Season 2, Bulkhead Interactive has decided to scrap the bribery plan it announced last week as a way to help convince players to join the Blue team. The problem isn't that the plan didn't work—it actually worked far too well.THE PLAN:"Lonestar cash and XP bonus. Season 2 only. New Bakurani spawn." "We're looking at how we can help the win rate of a certain team." -Bulkhead...

UPDATE: ASUS actually approved the white RTX 5080 I asked for in a RMA from r/ASUSThe phrase 'RMA' is likely to send shivers down many a spine, especially when it concerns something like a graphics card. Returning a faulty component can often be a 'cross your fingers and hope for the best' kind of deal, so naturally I am pleasantly—very pleasantly—surprised to hear Asus has enough of a heart to not only...

The Linux kernel has dropped a rule, implemented in January this year, that required contributors submitting code to the project to explicitly declare any usage of AI tools in that code's creation. At the start of this year, the Linux project added lines to its documentation noting that "When AI tools contribute to kernel development, proper attribution helps track the evolving role of AI in the development process… If you...

Microsoft has been maintaining two separate Windows options menus for generations now, but a new test project spotted and investigated by Windows Latest might pave the way for a single, discrete bit of software that can do it all. What looks like a new Windows Settings app has stealth dropped in on the Microsoft Store, and that alone might make it easier to update with new features and hopefully finally...

In contrast, Epic's store "always feels sterile to me—you can complain about the Steam comments all you want … but, what they also do is they give the player a place in that world. They give the player actual agency and import and power inside of that ecosystem." Yeah, that tracks. The Steam forum is basically a replication of the horrors (and hilarity) of Barrens Chat, just with a few...
