Consumer RTX 5090 stock in the US (and many other countries) seems to be virtually non-existent at the moment, despite Nvidia's claims that production is still ongoing. So, what's happening to all those brand new consumer cards?A leaked video reportedly taken from inside a Chinese factory may have the answer. Posted by HKEPC on X, the footage shows what appears to be a huge number of consumer RTX 5090 cards...
Critical Hit(Image credit: Future)Welcome to Critical Hit, where I (or someone else on the PC Gamer team) celebrate and lament all things videogame music, audio design, and the ways our favourite games make our ears tingle.Despite my experience with League of Legends (the videogame) being incredibly minimal, I've spent years in admiration and awe at League of Legends (the music). Riot has found a real knack for taking its champs...
The development and release of Civilization 7 has been a rollercoaster for both fans of the series and developer Firaxis. The most recent entry in the long-running 4X series shipped with an age-transition mechanic where players would switch between civilisations at multiple points during a game. It was a radical design shift that divided the community, received well by some players, but going down like a glass of cold sick...
The more information that dribbles out from BioWare's cancelled Mass Effect game, the sadder I feel about the whole sorry situation. We've already seen an in-engine trailer that introduced a new protagonist and reintroduced Liara T'Soni, and we've heard that the game was set in a 'galactic Cold War' that combined all three of Mass Effect 3's possible endings. Now, it seems the new Mass Effect would also have had...
Halloween is almost upon us, and if you're looking for some suitably spooky videogame fun then allow me to direct your attention to Playable Archive, a free "micro psychological horror experience" from Darkstone Digital, the solo studio behind The Mortuary Assistant. As you might expect, given the title, Playable Archive bears a number of similarities to PT, the 2014 "playable teaser" for a cancelled game in the Silent Hill series. It...
Composer Austin Wintory (Journey, Stray Gods, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate) just shared 20 minutes of music he wrote as a sort of audition/starting point for the score of Mass Effect 5, aka. Mass Effect: Universe. According to Wintory, he had been in "serious conversation" with BioWare and EA to provide the game's soundtrack. To be clear: This was not music that was 100% slated to appear in the game, but it sounds...
Last week's Steam Next Fest had over 8,000 demos; now Valve has revealed the 50 most-played among them. The results aren't surprising: there's lots of friendsloppy casual co-op, incremental games continue to be popular, and players have by-and-large rejected games with overt generative AI use, with only four of the games among the 50 declaring AI use in development. Here are some other factoids:7 incremental games, including 10 Million Pixels and...
A Variety report says that Walter Koenig, known to the world as Star Trek's Russian hothead Pavel Chekhov, has died. Koenig's big break in show biz came in 1967, when he was cast as Chekhov in the second season of the original Star Trek series. He portrayed the character until the show's cancellation, and then through seven feature films; he had a particularly memorable scene in Star Trek 2: The...

What once would've been a forum or wiki is often now a Discord server, and that's created a problem: valuable information is hidden away deep in the chat logs of big public Discord channels, rather than in easy-to-search forum pages on the web.Discord now aims to solve that problem by making discussions in some of its biggest public servers searchable on the web.The change will only apply to "Discoverable Servers,"...
