You can change your appearance (for free) in Dragon Age: The Veilguard as often as you like. During character creation, the game says you can change your appearance later, but it doesnât tell you when or where.
Our Dragon Age: The Veilguard guide to changing your appearance will tell you where to go to get a new look.
Where to change your appearance
The only progress you need to make before you can change your appearance is that you have to reach the Lighthouse. Youâll get there at the end of âThe End of the Beginning,â Dragon Age: The Veilguardâs very first quest â basically the prologue.
In the infirmary where you wake up, youâll see Varric laying on a bed nearby and heâll stay there for quite a while. In the southwest corner of the room, youâll find the Mirror of Transformation â basically, Varric is to your left and the mirror is to your right. Thereâs even an icon for it on your map (which makes us missing it for so long all the more embarrassing).
Interacting with the mirror will take you back to part of the character creator. You cannot change your lineage, class, or faction and backstory, but youâll get all of the other physical appearance options and sliders again. You can change your body shape, hair and facial hair, scars and tattoos, and other physical characteristics. You can also save presets of various looks for your Rook.
You can also change your name and your characterâs voice, but (frustratingly) you canât change your gender identity or pronouns. That said, during âThe Enemy of my Enemyâ just a little later, youâll get the opportunity to choose an option that cements your character as trans or non-binary and unlocks a new line of dialogue options throughout the rest of the game.
