Lara Croft’s uneven second trilogy of games is getting remastered in 2025, with Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered, Crystal Dynamics announced Friday. The collection will include updated versions of 1999’s Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, 2000’s Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and 2003’s Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.
Like the well-regarded Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered collection, the second trilogy remaster will bring improved visuals, gameplay enhancements like modernized controls, a new photo mode, and other quality-of-life updates. Developer Aspyr returns to oversee the second Tomb Raider trilogy remaster.
Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered represents a low period for the franchise, in which original Tomb Raider developers Core Design tried to kill Lara off, after tiring of pumping out frequent sequels. Lara was implied to have died in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, a fate that was pretty much ignored for the anthology-style Chronicles and an attempted new trilogy starter, The Angel of Darkness.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth Tomb Raider games were reportedly quite difficult for Core Design to make. Notable delays and technical issues plagued the latter game. Those challenges were reflected in the games’ quality and reception; The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and The Angel of Darkness received mixed-to-negative reviews at the time. After 2003’s Angel of Darkness, the franchise was taken over by developer Crystal Dynamics, which rebooted Tomb Raider lore Tomb Raider: Legend in 2006.
Aspyr’s remaster might address some of the complaints with that trilogy of games, though. The studio’s work on Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered resulted in an outstanding product.
Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered will be released on Feb. 14, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The collection costs $29.99.
Crystal Dynamics announced the trio of remastered games alongside two important Tomb Raider milestones this week. The 27-year-old franchise has officially sold over 100 million units to date, Crystal Dynamics revealed, and Lara’s new animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, debuted on Netflix on Thursday. There’s no news on the next Tomb Raider game, which was announced back in 2022.
