Lego is no stranger to recreating classic pop culture moments, and this new Lego Jaws set has almost immediately become one of my favorites. The 1,497-piece homage captures the showdown between a trio of unlikely heroes and a very angry shark. The set features a full recreation of the Orca boat, including the interior where the crew shares body scar stories; minifigs of Brody, Hooper, and Quint; and of course, “Bruce” the Shark — along with a display stand for its four lead characters. The Lego Jaws set costs $149.99 and will ship Aug. 22.
1975’s Jaws remains one of the all-time best films and one of the first breakout hits for director Steven Spielberg, whose storied career is too long to list here. Famously, much of the mystique around the shark has as much to do with off-screen malfunctions as anything — absent a working on-screen menace, director Steven Spielberg and the team instead spent much of the film’s runtime toying with audience’s emotions by keeping the shark just out of sight. The “duh-nuh” theme song is now shorthand for “instant anxiety.” If you need a quick refresher on Jaws, Lego has released an adorable “recap,” with some notable variations on the ending:
If nothing else, please just appreciate this amazing Lego-fied recreation of Brody coming face-to-face with his great white shark nemesis. A picture is worth 1,000 words, and in this case, it’s also worth at least a couple hundred bricks.
