Quick, how many Final Fantasies have you played? How about Resident Evils — or is it Residents Evil? And for that matter, Mega-Mans or Mega-Men? Nintendo’s new summer sale lies at the intersection of your gaming backlog and tough grammatical questions with steep discounts on some of the biggest franchises from Square Enix, Capcom, and WB Games — including games that have featured high in Polygon’s Best of the Year lists, such as Nier: Automata and the Resident Evil 2 remake.
In addition to these publisher deals, Nintendo is offering a 20% discount for a pair of NES controllers, perfect for playing retro classics on Nintendo Switch Online or the new tribute collection Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition.
So if there are a few missing gaps in your fantasy RPG or zombie survival expertise — or a need to revisit simpler times with a D-pad and two action buttons — now’s a great time to invest in you.
Square Enix’s Summer Sale runs through midnight PT on Jul. 25, offering discounts of up to 60% on modern Final Fantasy titles going as far back as the original Final Fantasy VII for $6.39 (was $15.99) up to last year’s Crisis Core remake (also FFVII-related) for $24.99 (was $49.99). Other highlights include 2017’s Nier: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition for $23.99 (was $39.99), 2022’s PowerWash Simulator for $17.49 (was $24.99), and last year’s Octopath Traveler 2 for $35.99 (was $59.99).
Meanwhile, Capcom’s Mid-Summer Sale runs a bit longer, through Jul. 29. The tentpole franchise here is Resident Evil, with the cloud versions of the Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard on sale for $15.99 each (were $39.99) while the rest of series is half-off at $9.99 each. Definitely check out Resident Evil 4 if you haven’t yet; this is a great price. Other highlights include the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Vol. 2 for $19.99 (was $39.99) and Monster Hunter Rise for $9.99 (was $39.99).
Finally, WB Games is joining in with its own Mid-Year Sale that runs through Aug. 4 and features major discounts on the LEGO Harry Potter Collection for $9.99 (was $49.99), LEGO Jurassic World for $7.99 (was $39.99), and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate for $8.99 (was $59.99).
